NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) – Speech outline

In Toastmasters we deliver often 5 to 7 minutes speeches. One of my speeches was a C7 (from the basic manual, project 7).

Objectives: Research Your Topic

• Collect information about your topic from numerous sources.

• Carefully support your points and opinions with specific facts, examples, and illustrations gathered through research.

Your speech will be more effective if you can support your main points with statistics, testimony, stories, anecdotes, examples, visual aids and facts.

Time: 5 ~ 7 min

Dear fellow Toastmasters and distinguished guests,

Imagine you would be able to influence somebody to do something without – using a gun?

Or wouldn’t it be nice to stop with that behavior you “suffer” for years, called smoking or drinking?

To lose weight – is a program I am going through now myself.

NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming could be the solution.

During Chinese New Year, YOU have been hunting for red envelopes, I was hunting for knowledge in NLP and got certified as an NLP practitioner. Tonight I’ll turn in the test papers for the Master practitioner, and I am sure I will pass that one too.

We know now that NLP can be useful for everybody. What is it exactly?

Let me read for you a definition of NLP:

NLP is an indirect tool used to help people change their behavior and improve the most important aspects of their lives. You can get someone to change but having them think that it was their own idea. It’s a tool that makes it possible to study human behavior and copy excellence.

In Toastmasters we learned that only 7% of the language is verbal, that lets 93% to non-verbal communication.

I will show you now some of the non-verbal communication – and I will translate them for you:

Your girlfriend was not reachable last Saturday and Sunday. Finally you meet her and you ask her where she was. She might tell you:

I was at my grand mom’s home. She is sick. (Your girlfriend is looking up to the right, when she is saying that)

Since I tell you that looking up to her right means that she is visual creating something, you might ask another question, like:

Does she cough again with that ugly sound?

She might answer:

Yes, her coughing is very annoying. (Hereby she is looking to her left, just sidewards).

To look to her left sidewards means that she remembers some sounds.

This is only true, if she is normal oriented, and since you know grandma’s annoying coughing, you got the proof she is normal oriented.

What did she actually say? Don’t use that as a serious conclusion now, but it is very likely, that:

Your girlfriend made the story of visiting her grandma up. She proved that by looking up to her right

Your girlfriend is normal oriented, because to a remembered sound she looked sidewards to her left.

Visual Created (VC) <–    –> (VR) Visual Remembered

Auditory Created (AC) <–    –> (AR) Auditory Remembered

Kinesthetic (K) <–    –> (ID) Internal Dialog

Sometimes we see also confusing “talks”, e.g., if somebody says YES and shakes the head. We expect that somebody node the head when he or she agrees.

So, the body and the talk is not confirm. It is possible, but not proofed here, that somebody is lieing.

With NLP you can do other things as well. Listen carefully to these two examples:

“When learning to cook from scratch, it’s best if you’re willing to ask someone who knows.

“It is obviously clear, that by now you are excited about this new computer.”

When I was saying the first sentence 6 people touched his/her nose. 1 girl moved her hair out of her face – away from her nose. May I ask you why you did that?

I tell you why: because I told you so. I say it now more clear:

When learning to cook from scratch, it’s best if you’re willing to ask someone who knows.

that was, that your brain got, and it followed that command.

The second example we often trap into it and find at home that we bought something we did not needed. You just followed the instructions of the sales man:

It is obviously clear, that by now you are excited about this new computer.

–> Buy now this new computer

NLP can change your behavior and you think you wanted it. However, sometimes we want to change something, like stop smoking, stop drinking, have fun with mathematics, don’t be afraid of spiders, snakes or mice. Or find the right spouse, the right job, or abundance. We can learn to change ourselves so that this is possible.

NLP cannot get you a job, except you are the practitioner, but it can help you to match the requirements for a job.

NLP cannot make you rich, but it can change your attitude to think to become rich and do therefore all what it takes to become abundant.

NLP cannot teach you mathematics nor can it help you to finish the boring accounting job, but it can make it a fun to learn mathematics and to finish accounting.

In NLP we have many different methods to correct a behavior or to change something for you.
